BUCKS COUNTY PARALEGAL ASSOCIATION Founded in 2009, BCPA is an organization whose goals are to advance the educational standards of the profession, encourage ethical professional achievement, and to promote the paralegal profession. We currently have 35 members and presently hold general membership meetings during the third week of each month at various locations throughout Bucks County. Please see our calendar of events posted on our webpage for current date, location and time. There are many benefits to members and those individuals interested in joining BCPA. These include the opportunity to meet other legal professionals, attend educational events, further professional development, develop leadership skills, and promote the legal profession. CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA PARALEGAL ASSOCIATION CPPA's membership averages between 75 to 85 members including paralegals, paralegal educators and students in the Central Pennsylvania region. Since 1984, the mission of CPPA is to promote, protect and advance the paralegal profession and its interests through fostering creative expansion of paralegal roles, at all times operating within the boundaries of the profession; to offer continuing education and scholarships to paralegals as well as education of employers and consumers in the use of paralegals; and to encourage communication between individual paralegals and paralegal associations regarding developments in the profession. CPPA is affiliated with the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA) and supports the promotion of PACE (Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam). CPPA provides information to its members through a monthly newsletter, web site, and job bank, and offers monthly "lunch/learns" to its members and guests. Local attorneys or public officials speak at the "lunch/learns" about their area of expertise. Each October is CPPA's annual "Take an Attorney to Lunch" program, where a distinguished guest speaker shares his/her knowledge or expertise on a law-related topic. CHESTER COUNTY PARALEGAL ASSOCIATION The CCPA was formed in 1992 with the objectives and purposes of promoting and maintaining high standards and ethics in the paralegal profession; providing a forum for the exchange of information about the profession; enhancing the role of paralegals in the community; and encouraging the continuing legal education of paralegals. The CCPA currently has over 70 members and has bi-monthly meetings in which a speaker from the legal community is invited to speak on current updates in the law or of special interest. In addition, the CCPA is extremely active in the Pro Bono community in assisting Legal Aid with fundraising events and legal aspects and the Pro Bono Committee is also assisting the Chester County Orphans Court with its Guardianship Program. The Chester County Bar Association has requested the CCPA's assistance with its Access to Justice Program, which aids persons who do not meet Legal Aid's poverty level but still do not have enough money to hire a lawyer. CCPA produces a bi-monthly newsletter and has the following active committees: Continuing Legal Education, Membership, Pro Bono, Fundraising, Publicity and Job Bank. LANCASTER AREA PARALEGAL ASSOCIATION LAPA was formed in 1984 and has a current membership of over 87 paralegals. LAPA holds monthly educational meetings, hosts several paralegal networking events, and publishes a bi-monthly newsletter for its members. LAPA members present paralegal career programs at local high schools, colleges and universities. LAPA's objectives are: (1) to develop, encourage, support and maintain high standards for the service, conduct and ethics of paralegals; (2) to provide an opportunity for the exchange of experience, opinions and information through discussion, study and publications; (3) to institute and carry on a program for the education and improvement of the paralegal profession; and (4) to establish and maintain communications with other paralegal organizations, the local and state bar, and other legally related organizations. LAPA conducts a comprehensive bi-annual Salary, Benefits and Job Satisfaction Survey. LAPA has eight very active committees which contribute to the success of their organization. MONTGOMERY COUNTY PARALEGAL ASSOCIATION The Montgomery County Paralegal Association (MCPA) was founded on October 22, 1999 and is made up of a diverse group of 80-plus members. It is the mission of the MCPA to provide a network of communication and support to all of its members, to act as a forum for the interchange of ideas and take an effective role in the development and growth of the paralegal profession by complying with the applicable legal authority governing the jurisdiction in which the paralegal is practicing. Committees include Membership, Bar Liaison, Fund-raising, Job Bank, Newsletter, Marketing/Public Relations, Community Outreach and Planning. Our General Meetings are held six times a year and include guest speakers from the legal community. Members are encouraged to submit articles and ideas for the newsletters. PHILADELPHIA ASSOCIATION OF PARALEGALS PAP was incorporated in 1973 and is dedicated to the advancement of the paralegal profession. On average, PAP has a total of 500 members. In addition to holding bi-monthly luncheons in which guest speakers from the legal community are invited to speak, PAP offers a network of opportunities for paralegals and students to become involved through the work of its various committees. PAP awards the Joan M. Weldon Scholarship ($1,000) to a paralegal student annually. PAP also sponsors an Annual Education Conference customized to cover complex areas of the law as well as continuing legal education. Included in its membership are practicing paralegals, students, individuals, schools, law firms and other organizations. PAP is a charter member of the NFPA. PITTSBURGH PARALEGAL ASSOCIATION PPA was formed in 1977 with the goals of promoting the professional development and continuing education of paralegals. Since then, PPA has averaged over 151 members each year and has developed a strong communication network of paralegals within the Western Pennsylvania region. PPA has established a solid relationship with the Allegheny County Bar Association and each of PPA's voting members has the right to join the ACBA as an affiliate member. PPA also maintains a national presence through its affiliation with NFPA. PPA provides many educational opportunities, including: monthly general meetings, specialty section meetings, and full or half-day seminars. PPA encourages student involvement and annually awards a scholarship to a student from one of the areas paralegal training programs. PPA, through its many and varied committees, provides many opportunities for paralegals to volunteer their paralegal skills to community projects, expand their legal knowledge, network among peers, and participate in the development of the paralegal profession. YORK COUNTY PARALEGAL ASSOCIATION YCPA was established in 1992 committed to the advancement and support of the paralegal profession. YCPA promotes continuing education through monthly lunch and learn meetings and quarterly CLE seminars; encourages networking among its members, and maintains an employment referral bank. Through the Association's quarterly newsletter, "Paralegal Focus", members are apprised of issues affecting the paralegal profession locally, within the state, and nationally. YCPA maintains an open working relationship with local bar associations and participates in a variety of pro bono projects benefiting the general community.
